Season Summary

The 1998 - 1999 Season was an extremely succesful one for Collegiate.
In Wortie Ferrell's fourth year as coach, Collegiate toppled Woodberry at
the Prep League to end their 18 year streak, in addition to winning their
first state title since 1989.

In Dual Meets Collegiate had a spotless record of 15-0. The only teams to
come close were Woodberry Forest and Hermitage, but Collegiate's depth in
the line-up allowed them to win both these matches.

In tournaments Collegiate also did well. Collegiate captured second at the
Hopewell and Clover Hill Invitationals, in addition to taking 3rd at the
tough Lee-Davis Invitational [Behind state runner-up North Stafford and
perennial Central Region Power Lee-Davis]. At Preps Collegiate walked away
with 7 champions and the team title. Likewise at States, they won the team
title with 4 champions. They finished the year by placing 20 out of the 100+
teams at the Prep National tournament in Lehigh, PA. Collegiate had one
All-American, sophomore Steve Sica at 103 pounds.

Due to his solid wrestling all season, Steve Sica was ranked among the top 103's
in the State of Virginia:

103 Steve Sica - 1999 Mat Talk On-Line All State Wrestler.

Steve captured Prep League and State Titles, in addition to placing 8th at Lehigh.
