Collegiate finished third at the 2002 Prep League tournament held at Woodberry
Forest With 10 out of 13 wrestlers placing, Collegiate wrestled well as a team,
and was only 17 points off of Woodberry Forest in 2nd place.

    Joe Lawson won the tournament at 103 pounds.
He wrestled a tough Woodberry kid in the finals,
and dominated from the top position in the 2nd and
3rd period to win 3-0. John Clore took 3rd at 112.
He encountered no real opposition except for Mark
Flora, whom he could not get past, losing 5-9.
He won 3rd place with a pin over Ryan Amorroso.
Jamie Robertson cruised to the title at 119. After
walking through the semi's due to a DQ, he waited for
the right moment and pinned his Fork Union opponent
in the finals, avenging an early loss in a dual meet.

     Reed Blair took 2nd at 130. In an exciting semi-final match, Reed broke open a
tied match to take Max Brandon of Woodberry Forest to his back. He held him there
for 45 seconds, long enough to ensure an 11-7 victory. In the finals he had trouble
with VES's Mike Dulinawka, state champion last year, and lost by technical fall. Mac
Fridell won his second Prep League title, this time at 140 pounds. Nobody came close
to beating him, as he won with a decision, a major and a technical fall in the finals.
Zach Jesse and Joe Wolfe both took 4th at 152 and 160. Zach defeated Emmanuel
Gregg in the opening round in their continuing saga, but dropped a close match to Ed
Ivey of VES in the semi's. He then wrestled back to beat Peter Horner of Christchurch
(avenging an earlier loss), but dropped the 3rd-4th match to Gregg. Joe Wolfe pinned
in his first match, then lost a close semifinal match to a VES opponent. He wrestled
back to the 3rd-4th match, and was doing well against Lowry Pressley of Woodberry
when he was caught and pinned. Alan Miller was a match away from placing at 171,
due to some questionable calls against a STAB opponent. Marshall Waller placed
3rd at 189. He won his first match by pin, but lost in the semi's to a very tough Brian
McGurk of St.Chris's. He scored a pin in the consolation semi-finals after falling
behind, and then defeated Cam Arnett in a very tight 3rd-4th match. The match went
to OT rideout, where Marshall chose down and promptly escaped. At 215, Harry
Ludeman took 4th. He had the crowd going after defeating Jake Deford 6-4 in his
first match, avenging earlier losses. After losing in the semi's he wrestled back
to lose a decision in the 3rd-4th match. Seth won the tournament at heavyweight. He
pinned his first two opponents, and then defeated Jeb Pinkerton of St.Christopher's
6-5 in the finals. Seth scored two takedowns and two escapes in the victory, where
his opponent wrestled an extremely defensive match.

     Overall the team wrestled very well, improving their performances against past
opponent's. Though both John and Thomas Price went 0-2 on the day, they
wrestled very well for eight graders and will do very well in upcoming years.
