Most Outstanding Wrestler - 135 Dan Delalla (Norfolk Academy)

Individual Results

125 - Jamie Robertson (1st)

wbf3:46David Colen (Norfolk Academy) 1
wbf1:39David Schafer (St.Christopher's) 1  2

Jamie picked up two pins to capture his second prep league title. Against David
Schafer, Jamie shot in on a double leg and took down Schafer. He then threw in a
figure four (see above picture) to get the pin.

140 - Reed Blair (3rd)

wbd4-0Chris Fraley (Fork Union)
lbd2-7Bryan Nelson (Woodberry Forest)
wbd4-0David Bury (Christchurch) 1
wbf2:03Cory Phillip (St.Christopher's) 1

Reed Blair wrestled a gutsy tournament, despite having an injured knee and not
having practiced for a week. He won a decision in his first match, but dropped
his second match due to limited mobility. He dropped into the consolations,
picked up another close decision, and then pinned in his medal match, seeming
much stronger towards the end.

145 - John Price

lbf1:13Sonny Close (Woodberry Forest)
wbd8-7Joe Cirenza (St.Anne's-Belfield)
wbf0:30Lars Freeman (Christchurch) 1
lbd0-4Luca Barber (St.Christopher's) 1

John Price wrestled well despite being a weight up, going 2-2 on the day.
After losing his first match, he picked up two wins in the consolations.
A last second escape helped in the defeat of his STAB opponent, and he then
overwhelmed his Christchurch opponent for a quick pin. He lost his final
match to Luca Barber of St.C's, but did a good job of wrestling carefully.

152 - Thomas Price

lbmd0-11Bose Bratton (Woodberry Forest) 1
lbd2-5Eric Reynolds (Fork Union) 1

Like John, Thomas also wrestled up. He lost his first match to a physically
stronger Woodberry opponent, but refused to give up a pin. In his second match,
he matched off well with his Fork Union opponent, but ran into some trouble
on bottom when the Fork Union wrestler rode parallel on top without working
for nearfall points.

160 - Ben Schewel

lbf2:42Sterling Hill (Woodberry Forest) 1
lbd1-7Altan Sisman (St.Anne's-Belfield)

Ben scored the first takedown against his Woodberry opponent, but was taken
to his back and pinned in the second. Hill of Woodberry has good balance. Against
Altan Sisman of STAB, Ben couldn't get out on bottom and gave up some nearfall
points, losing by decision. Once Ben adds more experience to go with his strength,
he can be a very good wrestler.

171 - Alan Miller (4th)

wbf3:00Reed Espinosa (Christchurch)
lbmd17-5Sean Geary (Fork Union) 1
wbf4:33Tyler Sansom (Blue Ridge) 1
lbd4-6Curry Cornelius (Woodberry Forest) 1

Alan Miller went 2-2 on the day to take fourth place. After a pin in his
first match, Alan ran into a very tough and well prepared Fork Union opponent.
A loss put him back in the consolations. Against Tyler Sansom of Blue Ridge,
Alan was down by one point when he hit a great roll and put Sansom on his
back, ultimately pinning him (See above photo). In his medal match, Cornelius
scored the first takedown, but Alan countered with a reversal. Cornelius
grabbed a controversial reversal of his own at the end of the period.
Alan then used a nice tilt to pick up two points and tie the score 4-4.
Cornelius managed another reversal with 10 seconds left in the match, to
pick up the win.

189 - Marshall Waller

wbinjdefAaron Williamson (Fork Union)
lbinjdefConner Gentil (Woodberry Forest)
lbinjdefChad Salecker (VES)

Marshall was wrestling Aaron Williamson of Fork Union in his first match when
he suffered a concussion. Marshall was not seriously hurt, but forfeited the
rest of his matches for the day.

215 - Harry Ludeman (4th)

wbf4:48Daniel Lipskis (Norfolk Academy)
lbd1-2 (OT Rideout)Cam Arnett (Woodberry Forest) 1
wbd6-2Alex Biddle (Fork Union) 1
lbmd5-13Rory Bosek (Blue Ridge)

Harry also went 2-2 to take fourth place for the day. After pinning Dan
Lipskis of Norfolk Academy, Harry faced off with Cam Arnett of Woodberry
Forest again, with Arnett having won the previous meeting 5-2. First period
there is no scoring, but there is a stalling call on both men. Arnett picks up an
escape in the second period, no further scoring in the 2nd. In the third Harry is
on bottom when Arnett is hit with stalling on top with the period almost over.
The match goes into OT, then OT rideout. Arnett chose bottom, and managed to
escape with no time left on the clock. In the consolation finals, Ludeman
dropped his 3rd-4th match to Rory Bosek. The score was 5-4 when Bosek tossed
Harry to his back for a five point move. Attempting a toss of his own, Harry
exposed himself and was thrown again. Despite the score, these two wrestlers
are very closely matched.

275 - Sam Belk

lbf1:13Marcos Maldonado (Virginia Episcopal)
lbf1:45Bill Stewart (Fork Union) 1

Sam wrestled well against opponents with at least 50 pounds on him. Look for
him to do better as he gains size and experience.
