103: Grant Giordano (Norfolk Academy) dec Jimmy Mackey (St.Christopher's) 7-4

In an exciting match at 103, Grant Giordano decisioned Jimmy Mackey of
the Saints. Giordano held a lead throughout most of the match, and a set
of near-fall points was the difference in score I believe.

112 Brian Herod (St.Christopher's) dec Ryan Amorosso (Norfolk Academy) 5-2

At 112, Brian Herod captured his second Prep League title with a decision
over Ryan Amorosso. Herod scored a takedown each in the first and second
period, and picked up an escape somewhere along the way. In the third Amorosso
grabbed a takedown of his own, but was unable to get nearfall points.

119 Thomas Nielsen (Woodberry Forest) dec Zack Rolfe (St.Christopher's) 8-4

Nielsen used 4 takedowns and strong top work to win the match. Rolfe scored
two escapes and a reversal in the third, but couldn't match Nielsen on his feet.

125 Jamie Robertson (Collegiate) pin David Shafer (St.Christopher's) 1:39

Jamie picked up his second prep league title with a pin over David Shafer. After
shooting in on a double leg and fighting to finish it, Jamie put Schafer on his back
and pinned him with a figure-four leg lock.

130 Hunter Carpenter (St.Christopher's) dec David Lane (VES) 12-5

Earlier in the season Lane defeated Carpenter 4-3 in a dual meet, but Carpenter
won the rematch for his second Prep League title. In the first period Hunter
scored a quick takedown and cut Lane, but Lane countered with a takedown
of his own, followed by a Carpenter reversal. In the second Hunter scored
a set of nearfall points. In the third Hunter reversed from bottom, Lane also
reversed, and Hunter scored a final reversal of his own.

135 Dan Delalla (Norfolk Academy) major dec Ken Chernauskas (STAB) 14-5

In a rematch of the 2002 VISWA finals at 125 pounds, Delalla dominated
Ken Chernauskas. Delalla, very quick on his feet, scored most of his points
from takedowns.

140 Hardwick Caldwell (VES) pin Bryan Nelson (Woodberry Forest) 0:43

Hardwick Caldwell picked up a first period pin to capture his first Prep League
title. Caldwell converted a single leg to an inside trip and took Nelson
straight to his back for the pin.

145 Chris Wilcox (VES) tech fall Sonny Close (Woodberry Forest) 28-13

Chris Wilcox won his first Prep League title with a technical fall over Sonny
Close of Woodberry Forest. Wilcox scored a total of 13 takedowns enroute to
the technical fall. His favorite was a modified Fireman's carry that he hit
numerous times.

152 Bose Bratton (Woodberry Forest) dec Will Gordon (VES) 9-6

Woodberry picked up a finals victory against VES as Bose Bratton defeated
Will Gordon for the title. In the first period Gordon scored a takedown and
a reversal, and I believe Bratton hit a cradle for backpoints somewhere along
the way. At the beginning of the third period, the score was tied 6-6. Bratton
scored an escape to make it 7-6, and then hit a takedown in the final 10
seconds to seal the victory.

160 Ryan Robertson (St.Christopher's) dec Richard Rudolph (Blue Ridge) 3-2

Rudolph hit a nice takedown in the first period, but Robertson quickly
escaped. In the second Rudolph chose bottom but couldn't escape.
In the third, Rudolph was looking for a cradle from top but couldn't
get it. Robertson scored a reversal towards the end of the period to
go up, and rode Rudolph out to win.

171 Kirk Adamson (St.Christopher's) dec Sean Geary (Fork Union) 3-0

Kirk Adamson defeated Sean Geary in a battle of two closely matched
wrestlers. There was no score at the end of the first period. In the second,
Geary chose down but couldn't escape, as Adamson threw in legs and
was persistent on top. Geary cut Adamson at the beginning of the third
period. Adamson scored a takedown, and then rode out Geary to finish
the period.

189 Conner Gentil (Woodberry Forest) dec Thomas Hovis (St.Christopher's) 5-1

Conner Gentil captured his second Prep League title with a decision over
Thomas Hovis of St.Christopher's. Gentil started off with a takedown in
the 1st period. He then picked up an escape and a takedown in the second
as well. Hovis scored an escape in the third to get on the board. Gentil
wrestled tough from the top position.

215 Tyler Schmidt (St.Christopher's) dec Cam Arnett (Woodberry Forest) 4-0

Tyler Schmidt decisioned Cam Arnett for his first prep league title.
There was no score at the end of the first period, but Arnett was
warned for stalling. Arnett chose bottom for the second and couldn't
escape, but was warned for stalling again and Schmidt was awarded
a point. In the third Schmidt scored a reversal and recieved another
stalling point as well.

275 Jeb Pinkerton (St.Christopher's) pin Marcos Maldonaldo (VES) 2:44

Pinkerton captured his first Prep League title with a pin over Marcos
Maldonaldo of VES. The two wrestlers battled it out on their feet
for the first period. Pinkerton caught Maldonaldo in the second
period and got the pin.
