Finals Results103: Grant Giordano (Norfolk Academy) dec Jimmy Mackey (St.Christopher's) 7-4 In an exciting match at 103, Grant Giordano decisioned Jimmy Mackey of the Saints. Giordano held a lead throughout most of the match, and a set of near-fall points was the difference in score I believe.
    
112 Brian Herod (St.Christopher's) dec Ryan Amorosso (Norfolk Academy) 5-2 At 112, Brian Herod captured his second Prep League title with a decision over Ryan Amorosso. Herod scored a takedown each in the first and second period, and picked up an escape somewhere along the way. In the third Amorosso grabbed a takedown of his own, but was unable to get nearfall points.
    
119 Thomas Nielsen (Woodberry Forest) dec Zack Rolfe (St.Christopher's) 8-4 Nielsen used 4 takedowns and strong top work to win the match. Rolfe scored two escapes and a reversal in the third, but couldn't match Nielsen on his feet.
    
125 Jamie Robertson (Collegiate) pin David Shafer (St.Christopher's) 1:39 Jamie picked up his second prep league title with a pin over David Shafer. After shooting in on a double leg and fighting to finish it, Jamie put Schafer on his back and pinned him with a figure-four leg lock.
    
130 Hunter Carpenter (St.Christopher's) dec David Lane (VES) 12-5 Earlier in the season Lane defeated Carpenter 4-3 in a dual meet, but Carpenter won the rematch for his second Prep League title. In the first period Hunter scored a quick takedown and cut Lane, but Lane countered with a takedown of his own, followed by a Carpenter reversal. In the second Hunter scored a set of nearfall points. In the third Hunter reversed from bottom, Lane also reversed, and Hunter scored a final reversal of his own.
    
135 Dan Delalla (Norfolk Academy) major dec Ken Chernauskas (STAB) 14-5 In a rematch of the 2002 VISWA finals at 125 pounds, Delalla dominated Ken Chernauskas. Delalla, very quick on his feet, scored most of his points from takedowns.
    
140 Hardwick Caldwell (VES) pin Bryan Nelson (Woodberry Forest) 0:43 Hardwick Caldwell picked up a first period pin to capture his first Prep League title. Caldwell converted a single leg to an inside trip and took Nelson straight to his back for the pin.
    
145 Chris Wilcox (VES) tech fall Sonny Close (Woodberry Forest) 28-13 Chris Wilcox won his first Prep League title with a technical fall over Sonny Close of Woodberry Forest. Wilcox scored a total of 13 takedowns enroute to the technical fall. His favorite was a modified Fireman's carry that he hit numerous times.
    
152 Bose Bratton (Woodberry Forest) dec Will Gordon (VES) 9-6 Woodberry picked up a finals victory against VES as Bose Bratton defeated Will Gordon for the title. In the first period Gordon scored a takedown and a reversal, and I believe Bratton hit a cradle for backpoints somewhere along the way. At the beginning of the third period, the score was tied 6-6. Bratton scored an escape to make it 7-6, and then hit a takedown in the final 10 seconds to seal the victory.
    
160 Ryan Robertson (St.Christopher's) dec Richard Rudolph (Blue Ridge) 3-2 Rudolph hit a nice takedown in the first period, but Robertson quickly escaped. In the second Rudolph chose bottom but couldn't escape. In the third, Rudolph was looking for a cradle from top but couldn't get it. Robertson scored a reversal towards the end of the period to go up, and rode Rudolph out to win.
    
171 Kirk Adamson (St.Christopher's) dec Sean Geary (Fork Union) 3-0 Kirk Adamson defeated Sean Geary in a battle of two closely matched wrestlers. There was no score at the end of the first period. In the second, Geary chose down but couldn't escape, as Adamson threw in legs and was persistent on top. Geary cut Adamson at the beginning of the third period. Adamson scored a takedown, and then rode out Geary to finish the period.
    
189 Conner Gentil (Woodberry Forest) dec Thomas Hovis (St.Christopher's) 5-1 Conner Gentil captured his second Prep League title with a decision over Thomas Hovis of St.Christopher's. Gentil started off with a takedown in the 1st period. He then picked up an escape and a takedown in the second as well. Hovis scored an escape in the third to get on the board. Gentil wrestled tough from the top position.
    
215 Tyler Schmidt (St.Christopher's) dec Cam Arnett (Woodberry Forest) 4-0 Tyler Schmidt decisioned Cam Arnett for his first prep league title. There was no score at the end of the first period, but Arnett was warned for stalling. Arnett chose bottom for the second and couldn't escape, but was warned for stalling again and Schmidt was awarded a point. In the third Schmidt scored a reversal and recieved another stalling point as well.
    
275 Jeb Pinkerton (St.Christopher's) pin Marcos Maldonaldo (VES) 2:44 Pinkerton captured his first Prep League title with a pin over Marcos Maldonaldo of VES. The two wrestlers battled it out on their feet for the first period. Pinkerton caught Maldonaldo in the second period and got the pin.
