103 Tyler Hamblen (St.Christopher's) dec Grant Giordano (Norfolk Academy) 4-1
The first period was scoreless. Hamblen escaped in the second and picked up a
point as well. In the third Giordano escaped, but Hamblen scored a late takedown
to secure the win.
112 Vinny Delalla (Norfolk Academy) dec Kevin Donohue (St.Christopher's) 6-4
The first period was a scoreless one. In the second, Donohue started down and
picked up a reversal. Delalla countered with a well executed roll to take Donohue
to his back for nearfall points. In the third, Delalla escaped and Donohue scored
a final takedown.
119 Brian Herod (St.Christopher's) dec Ryan Amorosso (Norfolk Academy) 5-3
Herod and Amorosso wrestled last year for the title at 112, with Herod winning 5-2.
Brian Herod won again 5-3, mainly on takedowns, to capture his 3rd Prep League Title.
125 John Clore (Collegiate) default Zack Rolfe (St.Christopher's)
I believe Zack Rolfe was leading 4-1 when the injury occured. I wasn't in a position
to see what happened fully, but John had Zack Rolfe's ankles laced while Rolfe was
standing, and Rolfe was trying hard to escape. Rolfe's knee made contact with the
back of John's head, and John was unable to continue the match, winning by default.
130 Jamie Robertson (Collegiate) dec Sam Redd (St.Christopher's) 4-2
In the first period Sam Redd scored a takedown, and Jamie escaped. The second
period was scoreless, with Jamie taking top and riding Redd out the whole period.
In the third Jamie took down, escaped, and scored a takedown towards the end of the
match to secure the win. This was Jamie's 3rd Prep League Title.
135 David Schafer (St.Christopher's) dec Thomas Nielsen (Woodberry Forest) 6-3
Nielsen scored a takedown in the first, with Schafer countering with a reversal
and 2 nearfall points. The only score in the second was a Nielsen escape. The
third period saw a Schafer escape and penalty point.
140 Hunter McDonald (St.Christopher's) dec Bryan Nelson (Woodberry Forest) 5-2
This match was all takedowns and escapes. 1st Period, McDonald takedown.
Second period, Mcdonald escape. Third period, Nelson escape, McDonald Takedown,
Nelson escape. Hunter is good on his feet.
145 Josh Moses (St.Christopher's) dec Julian Rives (Woodberry Forest) 7-4
The first period saw a Moses takedown and Rives escape. In the second, Moses
reversed, Rives countered with an escape. Then a Moses takedown, another
Rives escape, and a penalty point for Moses. Only scoring in the third was
a Rives escape.
152 Will Gordon (Virginia Episcopal) dec Brandon Nunally (St.Christopher's) 7-4
Only score in the first was a Gordon takedown. In the second period, Will escaped
and scored another takedown, followed by a Nunally escape. In the third period,
Gordon picked up another takedown and Nunally picked up a reversal and an escape.
160 Hardwick Caldwell (Virginia Episcopal) dec Kirk Adamson (St.Christopher's) 4-2
Hardwick Caldwell captured his second Prep League title with a decision over
the Saints' Kirk Adamson. Hardwick took down Adamson in the first period and
scored a reversal in the second. Adamson scored with an escape in both the
second and third period.
171 Thomas Hovis (St.Christopher's) dec Hunter Higginbotham (Virginia Episcopal) 1-0
Very close match. Only score was a Hovis escape in the second period.
189 Ryan Robertson (St.Christopher's) pin Kevin Finger (Norfolk Academy) 2:23
Robertson scored a takedown in the first period. In the second, he put
Finger on his back and captured the pin 23 seconds into the period.
215 Tyler Schmidt (St.Christopher's) major dec Rory Bosek (Blue Ridge) 14-6
Bosek scored a double leg takedown in the first period, but Schmidt escaped
and picked up a takedown. Bosek escaped to make it 4-4 at the end of the
first. In the second, Schmidt escaped and scored a takedown. The third
period saw a Schmidt takedown and three nearfall points. There were some
more unaccounted points, but the final score was 14-6.
275 Marcos Maldonaldo (Virginia Episcopal) dec Harry Ludeman (Collegiate) 5-4
No scoring in the first. The only score in the second period was a Maldonaldo
escape. The third period saw a flurry. Ludeman scored a reversal, followed by
a Maldonaldo reversal. Ludeman escaped, Maldonaldo scored a takedown in a scramble,
and Harry escaped again. Final Score 5-4.
