103 Grant Giordano (Norfolk Academy) dec Tyler Hamblen (St.Christopher's) 3-3 (2 OT)

Grant Giordano captured his second state title with a double overtime
win over Tyler Hamblen of St.Christopher's. In the first period, Hamblen
scored on a double leg takedown. Giordano recieved a penalty point for
locked hands, and escaped as well, in the second period. In the third
period Hamblen escaped, but was hit with a stalling point to send the
match into overtime. There was no score in the first overtime. In the
second overtime, Giordano rode out Hamblen to win the match.

    



112 Kevin Donahue (St.Christopher's) major dec Charlie Wilson (Fork Union) 14-6

Freshman Kevin Donahue won his first state title with a major decison
over Fork Union's Charlie Wilson. In the first period Wilson got on the
board with a takedown and two near fall points. Donahue picked up a
reversal and a penalty point. In the second, Donahue went up 10-6 with
two reversals and three nearfall points. Wilson scored a reversal as
well. Donahue picked up a reversal and two more nearfall points in the
third period.





119 Brian Herod (St.Christopher's) dec John Horbaly (Bishop Ireton) 4-2

Brian Herod and John Horbaly wrestled for the state title at 112
pounds last year, with Herod emerging as the victor. Brian Herod
won the rematch this year to capture his second state title. The
first period saw a Herod takedown, a Horbaly escape, and another
Herod takedown. Horbaly escaped in the second, and that was the
final point scored in the match.





125 Zach Rolfe (St.Christopher's) tech fall Jared Reutter (Hargrave Military) 18-3

Zach Rolfe captured his first state title with a tech fall over Jared
Reutter of Hargrave Military. Rolfe scored 4 takedowns, a reversal, and
8 nearfall points enroute to the technical fall.





130 Jamie Robertson (Collegiate) dec Norman Anderson (Bishop O'Connell) 4-1

Jamie Robertson won state title #2 with a 4-1 victory over O'Connell's
Norman Anderson. There was no scoring in the first period. In the second,
Anderson took bottom and Robertson rode him out the whole period, picking
up two near fall points. In the third period, Robertson took top, and
picked up 2 more near fall points with a tilt. Anderson escaped towards
the end of the period.

    



135 David Schafer (St.Christopher's) dec Thomas Nielsen (Woodberry Forest) 4-3

David Schafer won a close one over Thomas Nielsen to capture his first
state title. Nielsen scored a takedown in the first period. He then escaped
in the second to go up 3-0. Schafer scored a takedown to make it 3-2 at the
end of the second period. In the third period, Schafer choose neutral and
took down Nielsen to capture the victory 4-3.

    



140 Hunter McDonald (St.Christopher's) dec Reed Blair (Collegiate) 9-2

Hunter McDonald won his first state title with a decision over the Cougars
Reed Blair. Hunter scored a takedown in the first, a takedown and escape in
the second, and two takedowns in the third. Reed Blair escaped twice in the
third period.

    



145 Kris Park (Bishop O'Connell) major dec Riddick Beebe (Episcopal) 19-6

Kris Park scored 4 takedowns in the first, with 3 escapes by Beebe. In the
second, three more Park takedowns and an escape for Park, with two more Beebe
escapes. Kris Park finished the third period with two more takedowns.

    



152 Lee Stokes (Greenbriar Christian) dec Brandon Nunally (St.Christopher's) 7-2

Stokes got on the board with a takedown in the first period. In the second period,
Stokes escaped and took down Nunally. Nunally picked up a penalty point in the
second period. In the third period, Nunally escaped and Stokes scored another
takedown to make the final score 7-2.

    



160 Dirk Hurrin (St.Stephen's) dec Hardwick Caldwell (Virginia Episcopal) 5-0

Junior Durk Hurrin captured his third state title with a decision over Hardwick
Caldwell. Hurrin scored a takedown in the first, in addition to picking up a
penalty point. In the second, Caldwell chose down but was unable to escape. Dirk
took bottom in the third and scored a reversal to make the final score 5-0.

    



171 Steve Ratley (Bishop O'Connell) pin Hunter Higginbotham (Virginia Episcopal) 2:20

Steve Ratley, 3rd at Reno Tournament of Champions and Prep Nationals, picked up
the only pin in the finals. Steve scored a takedown in the first, in addition to
two sets of nearfall points. In the second, Ratley threw in his leg lock and got
the pin.





189 Ryan Robertson (St.Christopher's) dec Elijah Videl (Episcopal) 5-2

I missed the scoring for this match, but it was close throughout. Robertson
scored two takedowns and an escape, and I believe Videl had two escapes.





215 Mike Shotwell (St.Stephen's) dec Rory Bosek (Blue Ridge) 11-5

Shotwell scored a takedown in the first period, but was also hit with a
stalling call. In the second, Bosek escaped, was taken down by Shotwell,
and escaped again. In the third period Shotwell was hit with a second
stalling call, so Bosek recieved a penalty point. Shotwell then tookdown
Bosek and picked up three nearfall points. Bosek escaped, Shotwell scored
another takedown, and Bosek escaped again to make the final score 11-5.

    



275 Eddie Lynch (Bishop O'Connell) dec Marcos Maldonaldo (Virginia Episcopal) 6-1

Lynch went up 4-0 in the first period with a takedown and two nearfall points.
Marcos escaped in the second, with no further scoring in that period. Lynch scored
another takedown in the third to make the final score 6-1.
